A view from the top of the investment world.

Last month, I made a plea to City Council to consider experience and commitment to sustainability and to a rapid transition to a fossil fuel free Asheville City government and community when they chose the new City Manager. I also made a plea to increase their funding and staffing in the Sustainability Office so that a transition plan could be written and implemented in a timely manner. I gave the Mayor and each member of Council a packet of materials including an essay titled the Race of our Lives by Jeremy Grantham, a British investor, philanthropist, and co-founder and chief investment strategist of GMO, a Boston-based asset management firm having more than $118 billion in assets under management. Mr. Grantham earned his M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School and he is regarded as a highly knowledgeable investor in various stock, bond, and commodity markets, and he is particularly noted for his prediction of various financial bubbles. He is also the founder of the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment.
